New Delhi: Time-loop stories have become one of the most exciting genres in recent years, and now another Malayalam film is set to test viewers with a gripping mix of mystery, comedy and suspense. After its theatrical release last month, Dhoomakethu is now preparing for its OTT debut, offering audiences another chance to experience its unusual storyline.
Films based on time loops and repeated timelines have steadily gained popularity across Indian cinema. Following titles like Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu and Bollywood’s Bhool Chuk Maaf, Dhoomakethu brings a fresh take on the concept, blending humor with psychological suspense.
OTT Premiere Locked for October 23
According to reports, the makers have finalised the film’s digital release, with Dhoomakethu scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix from October 23.
The film was released in theatres on September 25. While it did not make a significant impact at the box office, expectations are high that it could find a wider audience after its arrival on OTT.
A Story Built Around an Endless Time Loop
The film revolves around a 35-year-old man whose wedding night takes a horrifying turn after a murder is committed and his wife is kidnapped.
From that point onward, he wakes up every morning on the very same wedding day, reliving the same chain of events again and again. As he struggles to break free from the relentless cycle, hidden secrets begin to unfold, leading to a major twist that forms the heart of the story.
Can OTT Change the Film’s Fate?
Although Dhoomakethu failed to deliver a strong commercial performance in cinemas, its digital release has generated fresh curiosity among viewers. South Indian films and web series have consistently received a positive response on OTT platforms, raising hopes that the film could gain the recognition it missed during its theatrical run.
With its blend of time-loop storytelling, comedy, suspense and mystery, Dhoomakethu is expected to appeal to audiences looking for an unconventional thriller experience.
