Ramayana Telugu Rights: Dil Raju Makes Strategic Deal for Ranbir Kapoor’s Epic, Learns from Yash’s Toxic Setback

Mumbai: Ranbir Kapoor’s much-awaited film Ramayana has created massive excitement among Indian as well as international audiences. Amid the growing buzz around the film, discussions have been ongoing about the Telugu theatrical rights and the deal made by veteran producer-distributor Dil Raju.

While several reports claimed that Dil Raju paid around Rs 80-90 crore for the Telugu rights of Ramayana, a leading distributor has reportedly stated that the actual deal amount is much lower.

Dil Raju secures Telugu rights through advance deal

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Dil Raju has acquired the film on an advance basis and will pay Rs 54 crore for releasing Ramayana in Telugu-speaking states.

The distributor dismissed reports of a much bigger deal and said that claims of an Rs 80-90 crore agreement are incorrect. He explained that the deal has been structured in a safer manner for both sides.

Telugu audience has strong connection with mythological films

The distributor further explained that Telugu audiences have always shown interest in mythological films, but the execution needs to be strong.

He added that the presence of Sai Pallavi and Kannada superstar Yash, who plays Ravana in the film, has increased curiosity among Telugu audiences. Fans are particularly excited to see Yash in a powerful negative role.

Dil Raju opts for a safer investment strategy

After facing losses with Yash’s film Toxic, Dil Raju has reportedly become more cautious about major investments. Instead of directly purchasing complete rights at a huge price, he has chosen an advance-based agreement for Ramayana.

This approach reduces financial risk and allows better control over investment recovery.

Advance amount can be recovered through profits

The distributor explained that an advance deal is considered a safer option because the advance amount can be returned if the film does not perform as expected.

If Ramayana earns more than Rs 54 crore in Telugu states, the profits will reportedly be shared between Dil Raju and the producers according to the agreed terms.

Yash reacts to Ramayana’s massive budget

During the trailer launch event, Yash also spoke about the reported Rs 4000 crore budget of Ramayana. He explained why producer Namit Malhotra has highlighted the film’s scale.

Yash said that Indian films often do not receive enough attention internationally unless their scale and ambition are presented confidently. He added that ever since Namit Malhotra mentioned the Rs 4000 crore budget, the discussion around the film has increased significantly.

Ramayana release date

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana Part 1 is scheduled to release on November 5, 2026, during the Diwali festive season. The second part of the epic film is expected to arrive on Diwali next year.

With its star-studded cast, massive production scale and international-level visual effects, Ramayana remains one of the most anticipated Indian films.
