‘I Saw Him Buy Mannat’: Anil Kapoor Shares Heartwarming Throwback About Shah Rukh Khan’s Dream Home

New Delhi: Veteran actor Anil Kapoor has recalled an interesting chapter from his long-standing friendship with Shah Rukh Khan, revealing that he witnessed the superstar buying his iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat. The actor also shared memories from Shah Rukh’s early days, saying he had sensed his future stardom long before he became one of Bollywood’s biggest names.

Speaking during his reality show India’s Top 1 Percent, Anil Kapoor reflected on his association with Shah Rukh Khan and the history behind the sea-facing bungalow in Mumbai’s Bandra.

‘Tezaab’ Was Shot There Before It Became Mannat

Anil Kapoor revealed that the property, now known as Mannat, was one of the shooting locations for his film Tezaab before Shah Rukh Khan purchased it. At the time, the bungalow belonged to someone else.

He said he clearly remembers Shah Rukh buying the property and added that his own connection with the bungalow dates back to the period before it became the superstar’s residence.

Anil Kapoor Knew Shah Rukh Would Become a Superstar

The actor also recalled meeting Shah Rukh Khan during the shooting of Benaam Badsha. According to Anil Kapoor, he looked into Shah Rukh’s eyes during that meeting and immediately felt that he was destined to become a major star. He said that their friendship began around that time and continued to grow stronger over the years.

Before moving into Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan reportedly lived with friends in an apartment on Carter Road. Anil Kapoor said the two often met in the neighbourhood, and Shah Rukh would speak about his dream of owning a sea-facing bungalow in Mumbai—a dream that he eventually fulfilled.

A Friendship That Goes Back Decades

Shah Rukh Khan made his Bollywood debut with Deewana in 1992 after starting his acting career on television. Anil Kapoor said he witnessed the actor’s journey from his early years in the industry.

The two actors later shared screen space in the 1995 film Trimurti. Although the film did not perform well at the box office, their friendship remained strong and has continued over the years.

Mannat, located in Mumbai’s Bandra area, was previously known as Villa Vienna. Shah Rukh Khan purchased the property in 2001 for around Rs 13 crore. Renovation work is currently underway at the bungalow, and the actor is temporarily staying with his family and staff in a rented residence nearby.
