Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has landed in a financial dispute after production house Eclatant Films Private Limited issued a public notice seeking recovery of Rs 29.67 crore in alleged outstanding dues. The company has also warned filmmakers, producers, distributors, broadcasters and OTT platforms to obtain the required written No-Objection Certificate (NOC) before entering into certain transactions involving Varma and projects covered by an agreement between the two parties.
Legal Notice Seeks Payment by October 30
According to the public notice published in the October 24 and 31, 2026, issue of Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine, Eclatant Films sent a legal notice to Varma on October 15, demanding payment of Rs 29,67,64,000. The claimed amount includes Rs 11,38,92,000 in accumulated interest.
The notice traces the dispute to an agreement signed on April 10, 2010. It also refers to an order passed by the Bombay High Court on April 17, 2013, in connection with the agreement.
The production house has set October 30, 2026, as the deadline for clearing the dues. It has warned that failure to pay could lead it to enforce its contractual lien over Varma’s share, rights, interests, revenues and exploitation rights in films and projects covered by the agreement.

Eclatant Films Claims NOC Is Mandatory
The company says the agreement requires Varma to obtain prior written permission in the form of an NOC before entering into arrangements with third parties or undertaking activities related to film production, co-production, direction or writing while the alleged dues remain unpaid.
The notice also addresses parties interested in acquiring or using rights associated with projects covered by the agreement. These include entities seeking to license, distribute, broadcast, stream or otherwise exploit such rights.
OTT Platforms and Industry Players Put on Notice
Eclatant Films has cautioned that parties entering into transactions covered by the agreement without the required NOC would do so at their own risk. It has also referred to potential legal action, including injunctions, recovery proceedings and enforcement of contractual security rights.
The notice places the spotlight on the financial claim and the contractual restrictions asserted by the production house. However, the claims outlined in the notice are those of Eclatant Films, and the supplied report does not include a response from Ram Gopal Varma.
