Vipin Aneja’s “Tere Paas Main” Becomes a Pan-Generational Hit of 2026, Reuniting Him with A.R. Rahman for Imtiaz Ali’s “Mai Vaapas Aaunga”

Mumbai: Playback singer Vipin Aneja, whose soulful voice first captured hearts with the viral song “Jaane Tere Shehar Ka” from Jazbaa, has become one of the defining musical voices of 2026 with “Tere Paas Main,” a beautiful, emotionally resonant nazm composed by legendary music maestro A.R. Rahman for celebrated filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s much-awaited film Mai Vaapas Aaunga.

Embraced by audiences across generations throughout India and overseas, “Tere Paas Main” has transcended the boundaries of a conventional film song to become a household favourite. Its evocative poetry, soulful composition and heartfelt rendition have struck a deep emotional chord with listeners, establishing it as one of the biggest musical hits of 2026.

The song marks another significant milestone in Vipin Aneja’s musical journey with A.R. Rahman, a relationship built over years of mutual respect, musical exploration and memorable performances.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Vipin says:

“When preparation meets opportunity, that’s when true success happens. Working with Rahman Bhai again feels like destiny unfolding at the right time.”

The seeds of this collaboration were sown during Dashavatar, a prestigious production that premiered at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) and was directed by Atlee. During the project, Rahman asked Vipin to sing several ghazals impromptu, showcasing his command over the genre and leaving a lasting impression.

Known for his remarkable musical instincts and attention to artistic detail, A.R. Rahman remembered those sessions and later chose Vipin to perform the emotionally rich nazm “Tere Paas Main” for Mai Vaapas Aaunga.

This reunion follows Vipin’s earlier collaboration with Rahman on the blockbuster film Sarkar, starring Vijay Thalapathy, where Vipin sang the Tamil and Telugu versions of the chartbuster “Simtaangaran.” The song crossed the 100-million mark and became a massive fan favourite. Vipin also toured extensively with A.R. Rahman as part of the iconic Unity of Light and Peace Concerts, performing before audiences across the globe.

Expressing his gratitude, Vipin adds:

“I have always looked forward to creating music with Rahman Bhai. To be part of a project of this scale and emotional depth is truly special. I am deeply grateful to God and to all the forces that came together to make this collaboration possible.”

Following the phenomenal response to “Tere Paas Main,” Vipin has returned to the independent music space with his latest single, “Woh Galat Tha,” released on Happy Music. The release marks another important chapter in his artistic journey, allowing him to explore soulful melodies, evocative poetry and contemporary musical expression beyond the world of film music.

With “Woh Galat Tha,” Vipin continues to build on the emotional and musical sensibility that has defined his voice, connecting with listeners through songs that combine lyrical depth with a contemporary sound.

Mai Vaapas Aaunga boasts a stellar cast featuring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari, and has generated immense anticipation among cinema and music lovers alike.

The film’s music, spearheaded by A.R. Rahman, has been one of the major talking points surrounding the project, with “Tere Paas Main” emerging as a standout song and a deeply personal musical experience for audiences across age groups and geographies.

With a career spanning 27 years as a professional musician, artist, singer and live performer, Vipin Aneja continues to bridge the worlds of ghazal, Bollywood, Sufi, folk and contemporary independent music. From “Jaane Tere Shehar Ka” to “Simtaangaran” and now the pan-generational success of “Tere Paas Main,” his journey reflects a rare ability to connect timeless musical sensibilities with audiences of today.

As he enters this exciting new phase with “Woh Galat Tha,” Vipin Aneja continues to reaffirm his place as a distinctive and expressive voice in Indian music.
